Recognition of Prior Bachelor's and Master's Degrees

In order to enroll in the European Politics Program, accepted applicants holding degrees issued by universities outside the Czech Republic have to obtain an official document confirming that their prior degree can be recognized in the Czech Republic.

We would like to ask applicants who have received notification of acceptance to the program to read the description of the recognition procedure and to initiate this procedure as soon as possible by filling in the application form and providing the necessary documentation.

Rules regarding the recognition of diplomas issued by institutions of higher education outside the Czech Republic (http://www.muni.cz/fss/study/recognition)

Highlights:

The request for recognition of diplomas issued abroad must contain the following:

1. A formal written request (application form), including the student's current contact information, in which the student asks for his/her diploma to be recognized.

Download the application form here: [ PDF].

2. Original or approved copy of the university diploma, examination certificate or similar proof of the completion of studies issued by a foreign university.

3. Original or approved copy of the diploma supplement, or an original or approved copy of the transcript of records.

4. Official translations of both documents into Czech language (in case the documents are written in English, translations will not be required).
A note: An apostille or legalization is required in some cases. (An apostille or higher legalization is an official document issued in the country of origin, which certifies that a document is authentic). See :the list of countries here

5. Written power of attorney in case other person than the graduate himself is applying.

Note: from 2010 on, all diplomas are sent to universities, in case of a (first) negative decision, appeal can be submitted. Applicants with diplomas from Slovenia, Hungary, Poland and Germany who want to enrol at Masaryk University submit a simplified request. All applicants receive full details and assistance.

Please note: Degree Recognition is only needed by students wishing to register at a Czech university for an entire degree program, but not by visiting or exchange students. In the case of applicants for degree programs, degree recognition is essential for admission. Thus it should be obtained before an applicant can receive the Decision on Admission. At latest, it can be submitted by the time of registration (usually September of the first year of study), as faculties are not permitted to register students without it. We strongly recommend that all degree applicants submit the Degree Recognition together with the application (if possible) or start working on their recognition at the same time as they apply for admission to our degree programs. Before initiating the procedure, please make sure that you have been acquainted with the full text of the rules of recognition available above.
