After Graduation & Career Prospects

The English-language European Politics program gives you the opportunity to study in English at the second largest university in the Czech Republic and to receive a Master's degree recognized in the European Union. The European Politics program is committed to providing the broad-based analytical training required by successful experts and professionals in the fields of European integration and International Relations. The faculty of the European Politics program includes some of the leading Czech scholars in the areas of Political Science, International Relations and European Studies. Additionally, the Masaryk University is one of the key research centers in Central Europe. It is engaged in extensive primary research which is endorsed and assisted by established public and private funding agencies. This makes the European Politics program especially suitable for students who have a special interest, or wish to acquire substantial expertise, in the region of East Central Europe.

The graduates of the European Politics program receive the training necessary for a successful professional realization in a number of professional areas. Typical job opportunities include consulting, research and teaching positions at universities, positions in the state administration, positions within the apparatus of political parties, and positions in the diplomatic services. Further outstanding opportunities for professional realization are provided by the institutions of the European Union, as well as by other international organizations. As highly specialized experts, our graduates can also work as journalists, analysts and lobbyists. Finally, our graduates can successfully compete in the business sector and work for private companies in positions requiring analytical skills and excellent knowledge of general developments in contemporary societies.

What Our Graduates Say

Here are some personal comments from graduates of the European Politics program:

Matt Rees, USA:

"Upon my return to the US, I was surprised just at how much I had learned over the course of Masaryk University's two-year program. I was given a great deal of freedom to explore topics in the field I was particularly interested in, and really go in depth when the opportunity presented itself. The professors are excellent, the classes are thorough and relevant, the university support staff is great with making sure all the administrative needs were taken care of, and Brno is a great city to be a student in."

Vladimir Ðorðeviæ, Serbia:

"I have been most pleased with the studies at European Politics at Masaryk University in Brno out of several reasons. The conditions of study were on a very high level, teachers have performed excellently and applied method of teaching which I found to be challenging and engaging. I would also point out that students were always resourcefully helped by the Student Officer and given necessary information regarding all spheres of student life. And, last but not least, living in Brno has its wonderful charms - the town has a strong appeal due to its specific historical and cultural developments, its convenient position in the 'heart' of Europe, and most notably, its incredible night-life and a considerable number of young people who come here to study, work or just enjoy. These reasons make European Politics Programme exceptional and a challenge in its own, and have also considerably affected my decision to stay here for PhD studies as well."

Alessandro Zaffino, Switzerland:

"My bachelor studies was based on completely different thematic fields but the EuPol system of readings and papers writing soon provided me with a very sound base to quickly improve and get into the "language" of politics. Most of the courses were quite interesting and challenging, especially the compulsory ones. Despite the fact that some course readings could have been shorter and more explicitely focused on the topic dealt with in the class, I gained an overall great impression both from the University in itself and the European Politics degree programme, and I once again want to thank all teachers for the great impact they had on my study and growth, both as a student and a person. "
